Blue Ash Beginners Workshops are an overview of basic dog training and designed for those who might not be able to commit to the structure of a set of classes or lessons but could give up all or most of one day. It is impossible to get through everything in a day, though and so we will go through many exercises for you to work on at home in your own time. I aim to teach some basic training techniques throughout the morning. After lunch we will talk about nutrition, how dogs learn and what might be going wrong with your training, for example, why he “does it at home” but “no ears” when we go out and other learning nuances.

A typical full-day workshop may cover some or all of the following:
- reward-based training theory
- mechanics of holding the lead and dispensing rewards (not as easy as it looks!)
- basic commands of sit, down, wait
- loose-lead walking,
- reward markers
- cues and release words
- luring and fading the lure
- breaking down your training into manageable bites.
- crate training
- recall training
- refining placement and timing of rewards
Workshops are held at our grounds on Pipiwai Road on available Saturdays or Sundays during the fine weather months, from 10am – 3pm with a break for lunch. Numbers are limited to a maximum of 8 cars – if you car pool, then we can work with more dogs!
There are kennels to pop your dogs into while we have lunch (they will need a break). You need to bring to the workshops a treat bag, LOTS of quality treats, your dog, a chair, a crate for your dog and your lunch and something to drink.
The workshop is run on a lecture/work/lecture/work type of basis and we may just get one or two working at a time in turns, or depending on the exercise, will work in a group.
You can come to as many Workshops as you like. You will receive a goodie bag and notes for you to take away and use. Treats, toys, and some training tools will also be available for purchase.

A typical 2-hour Topics Workshop might cover a subject such as:
- relationship building (which leads on to pretty much everything else)
- loose lead walking
- recall training
- clicker training
- nosework
- reward-based training theory
- balance strength and conditioning exercises (for more experienced clicker trainers)
Topics Workshops are held at our grounds in Pipiwai Road on available Saturdays or Sundays during the fine weather months at 10am, 2pm or 4.30pm. You can come to as many sessions as you like. Treats, toys, and some training tools will also be available for purchase.

Workshops are subject to a minimum number of 4 attending, and always depend on the weather.
